A Deeper Analysis
From the initial analysis, there seemed to be a positive relationship between exposure to crime and mental health-related visits. Neighbourhoods with higher crime incidence appeared to also have more visits to the emergency department for mental health and addiction-related issues. Oppositely, regions with lower counts of crime seemed to be associated with lower visit rates to the emergency department.
To further validate these observations, a scatterplot of the data as well as the correlation coefficient of the relationship between crime and mental health-related issues was created using Excel software. The scatterplot illustrates each neighbourhood's crime count and its corresponding visit rate from 2018-20. The slideshow below presents the scatterplot and discussess different aspects of it to provide a better understanding of the data. By clicking on the arrow (found on the right side of the slideshow), viewers can see several discussions of the scatterplot.
The correlation coefficient of the data describes the strength of the relationship between crime and mental health-related issues within Toronto. It is also included within the discussion of the scatterplot below.
